This shop is in a building with a handful of antique, crafts and vintage stores. Pretty much if you were a horror fan as a kid in the 70’s or are into vintage film memorabilia, you will just love this place. Over the top with old 60 – 70’s horror comics, posters, and games. Music albums and dvds, too, as well as old girlie/​cheesecake mags. The plastic Bela Lugosi lawn ornament that someone topped with a santa hat and perched on a top shelf pretty much defines this store. They have genuine, vintage Movie Posters for less than a third what I payed in NYC and movies on DVD that I’ve never seen anywhere else. I think it’s their own video label. very cool stuff.. I came because they were the largest record store at the Jersey Shore, but I come back because the new additions are always exciting. Definitely a very hip shop! Dan M. The Groovy Graveyard is a classic vinyl, movie poster, cult-​movie DVD and magazine store nestled in a walk-​in mall on Cookman Ave in Asbury Park, adjacent to an antique store. It isn’t visible from the road, but it’s worth searching out. I stop by at least a one a month, and leave with a few vinyl gems from the 1960s or 70s. They have an amazing selection of cult movie posters, perfect for your man-​cave or dorm room, and lots of odd-​ball movies I wouldn’t expect to find on NetFlix. A must stop for connoisseurs of 20th century pop culture. I’ve picked up some great blues reissues and the pricing is inside of this place is reminiscent of record stores from the late 90s, early 2000’s. Like a place that time forgot. But then again, it’s a record shop in a strip mall in the valley so I don’t expect any have not had much good experience with the staff. Many occasions I’ve been ignored for long periods of time waiting. Or my mere existence has seemed like a huge inconvenience for recently brought in some old records to sell because I was cleaning out my collection and am tired of lugging hundreds of LP’s around. There is something magical about looking through a store to find the perfect CD, having a physical item to hold and admire, look through the album art that people take a lot of time creating, and so on. If you love movies, they have a great selection of movies here as well. Much larger selection than Target or Best Buy. This place deserves to be and in my opinion MUST be supported. Syd B. The guys at the counter are always very friendly making the experience extra down the aisles you’ll find some real gems. Rock & Roll, Jazz, Folk, Pop, Funk, Blues, Hip-​Hop, etc… this place has it all. The music collection is pure gold and has many of my favorites, including some rare finds. Most vinyl’s are in excellent condition ranging from used to brand new. Prices are fair and a shame we don’t have more authentic stores like this, but CD Trader fills the void. So c’mon people; support your neighborhood store and let’s keep these spectacular records alive! After I check the DVD rack or the cd trays, I like going through the $ 3 section. Sometimes they have stuff that’s not worth retail, but I give it a shot anyway. I even had an old friend who was addicted to drugs now clean, so she would steal Blu-​rays and DVDs from Blockbuster when it was still around, and sell them brand new every day for roughly 3 months. The employees obviously knew that the items were stolen because nobody comes in with 15 to 30 Blu-​rays & DVDs still in their shrink wrapping every day without them getting suspicious. Still knowing all of this, they happily bought up the items daily. They were unethical and enabling my friend to use drugs by taking the items. Like I said I haven’t been there since 2008. I don’t remember a long haired guy with a bad attitude, but I remember a bald guy with glasses. In the end, I have mixed feelings about this place. The employees were corrupt. On the other hand, it’s still a cool store, and still around in the dying industry of being an independent record store in the digital/​streaming age. Shila B. I managed but it just made things slower for someone like myself with a long I was looking for was way too outside the box. Only a few items that I was looking for was on the list but I realistically didn’t expect half of them to be there. No negative reflection on the store. I just go for is well organized, lots of space and air sell vinyl mailers which helped protect my records for home. I didn’t do a lot of record buying since we were 90 minutes away from our hostel in 33 degrees heat Canadian measurement.I did have some things in consideration in hand but with the exchange rate at $ my list was automatically cut to a third before I reached the music in the background. They carry so much good import and stocked well in so many categories. You will definitely find something you were not even looking for.
